This THURSDAY!
Lecture: Artist Emma Varga
April 30, 5:30 p.m. Annenberg Theater
FREE to the public
Internationally renown glass artist Emma Varga will present a free lecture at the Palm Springs Art Museum on April 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the museum’s Annenberg Theater. Varga has perfected the technique of fusing and casting multiple layers of glass in an ‘aquarelle’ technique, using thin glass sheets, some of which are composed of tiny elements formed in mosaic-like patterns.

Her presentation will detail her technique, particularly in the creation of Ocean #40 (a work on display in the museum’s Kaplan/Ostergaard Glass center) and explore her sources of inspiration for her many “Red” glass works over the past 15 years. The lecture will include more than 100 images of Varga’s objects and is open to the public as part of the free Thursday night programming, sponsored by the City of Palm Springs.

On May 9th!

Altered Books Exhibition
On View at the Palm Springs Public Library
Through May 9

In 2006 the museum joined together with the Palm Springs Public Library to create a unique book/art program called Altered Books. Now in its third year, this creative partnership between the museum and the library encourages artists to create an original work of art from discarded library materials.

The exhibit was unveiled at the library and will be on display until Saturday, May 9th. All of the pieces will be available for purchase through an online auction starting April 30. All proceeds raised from this auction will equally benefit the library and the museum.
