This Saturday is Dia De Los Muertos!
This year we are bringing to attention two events that are happening on opposite sides of the Valley, one in Palm Springs and one in Coachella. Both are free, and invite the whole family to come out and enjoy the festivities.
What is Day of the Dead??:
Day of the Dead is a time of celebration and remembrance. On this day families gather to tell stories, honor their heritage and commemorate loved ones who have passed away. Through vivid imagery, storytelling and traditions, death is recognized as a continuation of life.
¿Qué es el Día de los Muertos?
El Día de los Muertos es un tiempo para celebrar y recordar. Durante este día familias enteras se reúnen para contra historias, honrar su cultura, y conmemorar a los seres queridos que han fallecido. Por medio de imágenes, narrativas y tradiciones vívidas, la muerte es reconocida como una continuación de la vida.

Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos begins at 11 a.m. on the museum’s front steps with a performance by Dazante del Sol.

Raices will be hosting their 5th Annual Day of the Dead. Dia de los Muertos is a community celebration in which we remember loved ones that passed on through a colorful, artistic, and traditional rendition of our devotion to their memory. The celebration is free to the community and will feature live music, local artist showcase, student and community altars, and many other activities. The event will be held at the Centro Martin Ortiz in Coachella on Saturday, October 30 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

As part of Dia de los muertos, Raices will be hosting a series of workshops. The Xinachtli Youth Art Project will have youth participating in various workshops of various art styles along side with some local artist that will be facilitating. To see more information about this program Press here.
Along with the Xinachtli workshops Raices is hosting a public workshoped called Tezcatlipoca and the Indigenous Traditional Worldview of Dia de los Muertos. In commemoration of El Dia de la Raza, this workshop will present the indigenous concept of Tezcatlipoca, the “smoking mirror,” and the significance of memory in relationship to the individual, family, and the community.
