Dear Coachella Valley Art Scene Readers,

Hello, and welcome back to another week here on The Coachella Valley Art Scene.  First and foremost, we want to start off by thanking everyone who attended our monthly party, World Famous, this past Saturday!  We really enjoyed seeing you all there and were grateful to have you guys spending your holiday weekend with us.   For all those who couldn’t make it – it’s okay… our next one will be on Saturday, December 31st – and yes, that’s New Years Eve!!!!!  I know, I can barely contain myself either… so fun.  Come craft your NYE party hat and all that… more details on NYE later this month and a Party Recap from this past Saturday coming sometime next week.

I’d also like to take a moment to excuse my tardiness in blogging this week!  As you may or may not know, the CVAS is ran by one woman and sometimes I get super busy on this end of the computer screen.  This week in particular is filled to the brim with long work hours (yes, I have a day job.  and no, blogging for the CVAS is not it – it’s my hobby), I’m talking 10 hour days that don’t involve being in front of a computer at all.  So, excuse me if this week is a little on the slow side.  I’m trying my best for all y’all, just bare with me.

It’s a bummer that I am ultra busy this week and can’t blog as much as I’d like to, however, that is why we are so thankful for having our newest special features writer, Victor Simmons, on our team.  As you may have read a couple weeks back, Victor is our latest Beauty & Fashion Contributor and has been consistently busting out interesting interviews on a weekly basis for the CVAS. And speaking of interesting, this week Victor dives into the Divine world of performance art/beauty/and fashion… drag.  This week we feature an Interview called Drag Attack, featuring a great interview with a few young local performers.  Victor and the Drag Attack interviews discuss the art of drag, the drama of drag, and the performance piece.

On the topic of performance, this Thursday the Palm Springs Art Museum is hosting another Free Foreign Film screening at 6:00pm in the Annenberg Theater.  This Thursday travel to Brazil via the big screen.  The Tenants will be screening, so make sure not to miss it.

We are also thrilled and delighted to share with you information about 3 different art shows going on in and around the desert that we really encourage you to check out.  Why??! Because, not only are all the artists featured young, local, and talented… but all of the shows are really amazing and have great work…. the kinda work you’ve been looking for.  Here are a list of the 3 shows we are ultra excited about and will (hopefully if we get the time) be writing more on later this week:

  • Ron Cameron solo exhibition at the CVAS Art Gallery inside Epidemic Skateboard Shop in Palm Desert
  • Us Desert Kids, featuring the works of Aaron Hansen, Carlos Munoz, Kylie Knight, ANTA and many more inside Mexicali Rose in Mexicali, Mexico.
  • 6 Degrees of Separation, featuring the works of E. Arenas, J. Garcia, C. Granillo, Maya Kalabic, Angela Kinley, J. Quintanilla at Lifeworks in Palm Springs.

In addition to those three art shows, there are a bunch more gallery and art studio opening exhibitions this week as well, all of which, will be listed in our Art Shows a Go Go post.

And just to make things fun and switch things up… this week we will also (hopefully) have a short Commercial Break!  Commercial Breaks are our favorite post to do; it’s basically a collection of Youtubes that we find that are of/made by people from the Coachella Valley.

And I know everyone will be at the Tamale Fest this weekend chowin’ down…. but don’t forget to go show some support/love to your local nightlife and musicians afterwards.  Our Things 2 Do Thursday will be here to guide your way midnight glory in the desert.

So, again… sorry for such a short week but I really gotta be grinding at work this week!  Thank you for your patience!

Sincerely,
