Dear Coachella Valley Art Scene Readers,

Welcome back to another week here on The Coachella Valley Art Scene!

Yesterday was a great day for the Internet… the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival lineup was finally released!  Within 10 minutes of the lineup being released every Social Media outlet of mine was hopelessly devoted to Coachella Fest’s lineup – it was great.

This year, a Coachella Valley local musician did not get booked on the Coachella line-up (as Alf Alpha did last year – word up), HOWEVER… do know… that The Coachella Valley Art Scene will be producing our art installation, The Coachella Art Studios, for the 4th time again this year at the festival!!!  We always rep the valley super hard by bringing out all of our local artists!!!  So, look for us on the Coachella.com website, in your Coachella pamphlets, and at the concert when you’re there.  AAAAAND, do know that Alf Alpha will be rocking for us all day every day as he does every year that we’ve been out there.  HOLLA!!!!  More information on all this later this week, but in the meantime check out: www.coachellaartstudios.com

Aside from…ummm... the coolest music festival in the United States…. we have another very exciting and fun thing coming up DOO WOP IN THE DESERT on FEBRUARY 10TH AT THE ACE HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!  Doo Wop in the Desert is pretty much our favorite party to throw every year – yes, more than World Famous.  What makes Doo Wop in the Desert so special??  It’s actually a performance piece where YOU are the artist!  Yes, you.  You come in costume – your best fit retro, from head to toe  – with the one you love (like, are seeing, and/or friend).   We set the stage and you show us what it is to bring back the art of romance.  We will have live musical performances to keep you twisting and shouting all through the night brought to you by DJ Alf Alpha – who will be playing nothing but the best in 50’s, 60’s and 70’s….and…. we will also be bringing out an adorable Doo Wop band from San Diego!!  Seriously, amazing music.  So, grab your partner and get ready to rev up the romantic side of your brain for this year’s Valentine’s Day.

This week will be bring back one of our favorite posts, Commercial Break.  Commercial Break is the CVAS’s hand-picked YouTube favorites from the web.  This week we focus on a few gentlemen who are interviewing local artists and giving them a platform to perform on.  They just got started in their creative endeavors, but we think it’s dope what they are doing and are excited to shine a light on them – make sure to come back later in the week for the Commercial Break.

This Wednesday (as in tomorrow), Epidemic Skateboard Shop will be hosting a premiere of  Machotaildrop, pretty much the best skateboarding movie since Gleaming the Cube, at the Ace Hotel’s Commune.  If you don’t know, you better start Googling and YouTubing.  Details about the event will be up on the blog later, and can also be found here: http://www.facebook.com/epidemicskate.

Also, the craze that started last week and is continuing into this week is the fantabulous, Palm Springs International Film Festival!  Since every other media outlet in the desert is going ham over the festival, we decided to sit back and let the chaos feed itself.  This week we put our own spin on the festival and talk about some films we are really hype on.

Something else that recently happened, that was awesome, but got no hype due to the PSIFF was the Dog Show at the Empire Polo Fields this past weekend.  Have no fear, the award winning dogs are here!!  And yes, to all those in doubt… Dog Shows are art, okay?!  Just ask my Jack Russell Terrier.

Coming up this weekend, Art Shows a Go Go!  We publish a list of art show around town that we are truly interested in and think you might be just as interested in as well.  Starting on Friday, this weekend is full of fun stuff for all of us artsy folks.

And, last but certainly not least, Things 2 Do Thursdays.  Every Thursday we attempt to provide you with a list of all the interesting things that come up after the sun goes down in the Coachella Valley.  All of which feature local musicians, happening at local venues that are reasonably prices – so come check it out!

Oh, and please always make a little room for our ‘Random‘ posts…. sometimes we find something on the Internet in the last second and feel the desire to post ASAP!

Sincerely,
