CK Dance Presents:
Paquita, The Princess Collection
followed by Jazz, Contemporary & Hip Hop
When: May 25th at 7:00 pm & May 26th at 3:30 pm
Where: Annenberg Theater inside the Palm Springs Art Museum
CK Dance’s dynamic spring production opens with the long-awaited return of Marius Petipa’s Grand Pas from Paquita, an exciting work of classical variations set to the music of Ludwig Minkus. Today in the ballet world, Paquita is performed as a one-act ballet that corresponds to the general canon of choreographic structures of a classical performance: entree, adagio, variations, coda. The gala entries of the corps-de-ballet and the soloists are marked with bravura and synchronism. The female solo variations follow. Each of the variations is a small masterpiece with its own character and style. On top of all this splendor, the leading dance couple demonstrates the academism and the beauty of the classical dance. CK Dance Alumni, Megan Wolfson, Principal Ballerina with The Minnesota Ballet and Joshua King, Alvin Ailey Professional Division dancer, will perform as the leading dance couple.
The program continues with The Princess Collection, dances showcasing original choreography by CK Dance’s talented teachers with music from many famous ballets involving Princess Fairytales, including Cinderella and Swan Lake. Rounding out the program will be Jazz, Modern and Hip-Hop dances set to today’s contemporary music. This enchanting series of dance performances will delight audiences of all ages.
