Dear Coachella Valley Art Scene Readers,

Hello!  Welcome back to another busy week here on The Coachella Valley Art Scene.

If you are reading this right now then that means that you too survived the World Famous party this past Saturday night.  Congrats, you are a trooper.  To be honest, I am surprised that I came out of that thing a live. It was wall-to-wall people!  Everyone dancing and crafting….having a grand ol’ time!  Essentially, it’s what the desert and Palm Springs are all about; resort hotels, stiff drinks, partying, looking good and tapping into your artistic powers…all at the same time.  It doesn’t get goofier, or realer than that.

This week we try to maintain the fabulous life of a desert dweller.  We will be focusing the majority of our attention on our Spotlight Artists this week: the AOK Art Show featured artists.  We have mini-interviews with Steven Preston, Rick Rodriguez, Aaron Hansen and many more coming up.  Each of the interviews highlight what the artist will be selling at the AOK (Art of Kraft) art show this Sunday at Birba.  All of which is new work, with new concepts, using new technology…. so you know we are already obsessed.   You gotta come back for those Artist Spotlight features.

Speaking of which, just in case there was any confusion, we will be giving you more information on exactly what is AOK (Art of Kraft).  For a super quick rundown for those reading, it’s a pop-up art show that takes place at BIRBA in Uptown Palm Springs, made possible by Qulture Qreative, and curated by The Coachella Valley Art Scene.  This Sunday will be the last of the 3-part series for this season.  We are looking to get picked up for another season so please come out and support – see what all the hype is about.  Art show takes place this Sunday, June 3rd – starts at 11:00am and ends at 2:00pm, inside BIRBA 622 N Palm Canyon Drive Palm Springs, CA.  All art under $200, 90% going to artist and 10% going towards local nonprofit.

However, before we get started on promoting another event…let’s recap on a few from last week, don’t wanna get too ahead of ourselves.  In this week’s Photo Recaps we have ANTA’s Art Show and bits & pieces from World Famous.  The entire World Famous Photo Recap will be up in a couple of weeks (once we fully recover).

Also exciting this week is the Free Film Summer Screenings that takes place inside the Annenberg Theater, brought to us by the Palm Springs Art Museum.  What I love about these films is that it gives us desert people a chance to escape the heat and discover a whole new sub community of the desert that loves interesting and thought provoking film just as much as you & I do.  The free film screenings start after 5:00pm…what’s not to love?  Right after work you can escape the day, the heat, and reality….without having to exit Palm Springs.  The life of a desert dweller, I’m telling you…it’s quite fabulous if you take up all the offers.

Not associated with the Free Film Summer Series, but it is a free film that is being screened this summer is the Truck Farm Free Screening at the Camelot Theaters this Saturday.  In conjunction with the Earth Matters Film Series, this is the second film after the Power of Community film screening two weeks ago.  The Earth Matters Film Series entertain while educating people how to empower their communities by coming together and using your local resources.  These films share what other countries and cultures do around the world to make their living situations better.  Not only are these films fascinating, but they are super inspiring as well.  More info in just a bit.

In addition, we will share with you some of the exciting art exhibits that are opening this week in our Art Shows A Go Go post.  Here is where you can see a listing of anything from the High Desert to Low Desert, and even the little guys in-between.  You never know what will catch our eye and your interest – so make sure to tune in!

Keep an eye out for our long lost, Commercial Break, blog post.  Commercial Break posts are dedicated to Youtubes that we find that were taken in, and center around, the Coachella Valley.   We haven’t posted a Commercial Break post in a while… but we are now on a mission to bring it back.  We’ve seen some really great video footage come out of the  desert lately and we can’t wait to share it with you guys.

And last, but certainly not least, make sure to come back for this week’s list of events that are happening in the Coachella Valley after the sun sets Thursday night.  There are a lot of parties and events, DJs and bands, playing across the desert and the best way to show your support is to pick and choose at least one of them to show up to.  This post, that highlights all of the local independent shows around town featuring your favorite local musicians is called Things 2 Do Thursday, the post that has been in action for almost 4 years now.  Support your local economy by supporting your local night life by supporting your local musician.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support and an even bigger thank you to everyone who continues to create!

Sincerely,

sarah@thecoachellavalleyartscene.com
