As we addressed in our last blog post, this weekend there are a ton of things happening in the Coachella Valley, especially in Palm Springs.

For starters, there is the Palm Springs International Film Festival!  That, as we all know, is a star-studded event.  Full of celebrities, fans of celebrities, pre-parties, after parties, red carpets, sold out shows, and film debuts.

There are many events happening that are spawns of the Film Fest, all of which are very cool and film related – however, there are a fffeeewwww other events in town that have little-to-nothing to do with the festival for all those looking for a sweet escape.

School Night & Ace Hotel’s Summer School / Winter Weekender is our pick of choice this weekend.

We love this event because it’s perfect for all those who may be getting a little antsy after surviving multiple movie screenings in a row (I know I’m guilty of that).

We also love that this event is open to EVERYONE and is ALL AGES!  Plus, you get to hang out and do cool art projects with rad artists.  And, on top of all that, listen to good music by the pool.  Now, that’s what I call #PalmSpringsLivin.

We can’t wait!  If you’re gonna come, hit us up on Twitter and/or Instagram (@thecvartscene) and let us know!  We’ll meet you there and maybe buy you a drink.  😉

Check out Stephanie’s Artist Bio:

“Stephanie Hutin (born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1978) is a Franco-American artist and filmmaker based in Los Angeles by way of Miami, Florida. She earned her BFA in Electronic Intermedia at the University of Florida, and her MFA from California Institute of the Arts in Experimental Animation and Integrated Media. While at CalArts she founded and produced a self-published book about The New School for Post-Animative Thought, in 2006. Her work has been shown in galleries and film festivals internationally, notably at the Museum of Modern Art, Anthology Film Archives, The Echo Park Film Center, The Wexner Center, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Hutin focuses on the performative aspects of animation, which often lead to community-based happenings, interventions, comedy, films, videos, curatorial projects, writings, and lectures, meant to challenge the way frame by frame works are read. Ignoring formulaic ideas about creating time-based media, Hutin strives to rewire and restructure rapid animation processes. In 2001, Hutin co-founded Big Skills, a platform for experimental design, film, and animation projects with her partner Florencio Zavala, she performs various radio personalities on a radio project Call With Questions, and has been the front-woman for art-rock performance group Jennifer The Leopard (J Lep) since 2007. Currently, Stephanie is finishing a short film about Richard Heene’s desire to invent his own mythology of the unseen through real-time special effects and a runaway balloon.

For this reason, and many more, are why we are so excited to learn how to animate with the great Hutin.
