Sigh….was it just me or was it kinda dull like a Sepia filter?  (that San Jacinto Mountain fire is something fierce!)  Being a resident of the Coachella Valley during the summer isn’t always fabulous…in fact, some times are just flat-out hard.  One of my favorite ways to avoid the heat, and the painful reality that often comes with it, is by leaving it all behind (or outside) as I relax in the theater and drift off to foreign lands through stories told over the silver screen.  In the theater is where you can sink deep into your seat, soak up the air conditioning and travel to far-a-way lands all while watching a fantastic foreign film.  This Thursday, the Palm Springs Art Museum invites you to join them on a voyage to Iran via Modest Reception.

Don’t get left behind, details below:

Synopsis:
Leila and Kaveh are a mysterious pair from Tehran, traveling the mountainous countryside in their Lexus coupe to push big bags of money on the locals. This turns out to be not so easy, but fascinating to watch, as the cagey couple invent increasingly brazen stratagems to place cash in the hands of the wary, proud or indifferent. Will they push things too far? Are they losing sight of their mission? What exactly is their mission? Led by riveting performances from Taraneh Alidoosti and writer-director Mani Haghighi, this bold comedy-drama unfurls with unexpected force amid subtle themes of power, privilege and corruption.
