This Saturday, August 3, 2013, don’t miss Mothers of Gut and HABITS live at BAR in downtown Palm Springs! Presented by The Ghost Channel and Coachella Shows, these L.A.-based bands promise to put on a memorable show with their unique blend of noise and experimental rock. If you are into not-your-run-of-the-mill bands, then this is the show for you.
Alex Callego, founder of The Ghost Channel, has a long history of bringing awesome bands to Palm Springs. Bands such as Bleached, The Chinese Stars, No Age, Halloween Swim Team, Glass Candy/Chromatics, Abe Vigoda, and FIDLAR, among many others, have brought the jams to Palm Springs thanks to Ghost Channel. If you’ve ever been to a Ghost Channel show, you know what I’m talking about when I say be there, or be L7.
For his next show, Alex Callego welcomes the krautrock-leaning Mothers of Gut. Their latest album Buildings, streaming at the band’s bandcamp page, is seven, psych-pop songs featuring horns, world-influenced bass lines, effect-laden guitars, and washed-out vocal harmonies a la Panda Bear. Mothers of Gut’s unorthodox song structure guarantees an interesting contrast to BAR’s contemporary and sleek interior design.
HABITS, which only has one song online, has more of an electronic hip-hop sound and reminds me of maybe a more abrasive Gorillaz, or Beck, maybe? Their song, “TOYMAKR”, is down tempo, trippy, and groovy; with their synth-based, sample-heavy sound, HABITS will compliment the BAR atmosphere quite nicely.
It is going to be an interesting night of music without a doubt!
