As the dust finally settles from Coachella, I start to feel human again.  This week I am finally free to take a moment to reflect upon Coachella 2014.  A great big huge smile graces my face every time I think back to how truly amazing my at time Coachella was.

This was the 6th year in which The Coachella Valley Art Scene had curated/organized the Coachella Art Studios, an interactive craft installation located in the center of the campgrounds of Coachella.  The Art Studios serves as a mid-day retreat for Coachella-goers to shape their concert experience through hands-on craft/D.I.Y. (do it yourself) projects.  We provide all the art materials, little instruction (we believe everyone is innately creative), and a cool creative atmosphere to really feel comfortable in.  To participate and create in the Coachella Art Studios is absolutely free, all the concert-goers have to bring to the table is their imaginations.

There are 3 different types of themed crafts within the Coachella Art Studios, 11 different craft/D.I.Y. workshops all together.  The three different craft themes are: Paper, Fashion and Recycled Materials.  Each of those themes have about 4 different craft workshops whose base to the project are built upon that founding art material.

After dark the Coachella Art Studios transformed into the “Turn Down.”  The Turn Down was a place of peace, somewhere to recharge after a long day inside the festival.  Visual artist, Major Gape, projected video art on the walls of the tent while beat producers graced the stage with downtempo grooves.  In an invitation for people to relax we let carpet and pillows flood the floors, lit candles and let incense burn.

This year, more than any other, was truly a rewarding experience.  Best part, hands down, was growing the team and collaborating with more people.  With a bigger creative team, makes me even more excited for next year.

Thank you to everyone who was involved, who participated, and to all who support!

‘Till Coachella 2015…

Stranger Portraits

Come have a seat, greet and meet. Sit down on opposite sides of an artist easel with a stranger, pick up a pen and draw/paint them. As you draw one another you will have the opportunity to get to know them through the process of using our (if needed) interview questions to break the ice. In the end each person will take home a small portrait of themselves and make a new friend.

But, just in case you are too introvert for all that, you can just space out and paint… 😉
