There’s a local artist in town that you should keep an eye our for.
His name is Chris Sanchez, he was born and raised in Indio, and is on the rise.
Two years ago he got picked up by Red Bull’s artist academy and has gone on to do Red Bull art installations at Coachella Fest, has had his art featured at The Coachella Valley Art Scene and Gallery 446 and most recently completed a large mural on the streets of Los Angeles.
All this summer Chris will be working away in his cave on a whole new series of art works.
But before we jump too far into the future, we took a moment to catch up with Chris to see what’s been keeping him busy.

ABOUT RED BULL’s LATAGRAPHICA

Initially launched in 2012, Red Bull Latagráfica was created to give artists local to Southern California the opportunity to create original artwork and display it on a new medium, a Red Bull 12 oz. can. David Flores, who then lived in Boyle Heights and now lives in Long Beach, won the opportunity through an online contest to display his artwork on grocery and convenience store shelves in select U.S. locations.

In 2014, the project is returning to the city in which it started, but this time as Red Bull Latagráfica Edición II. From January through October, 10 pre-selected artists will each paint one mural that will live on walls in Los Angeles. One of the ten artists will be invited to create the artwork for the second ever Red Bull Latagráfica can, or Edición II, which will hit shelves in early fall.

MISSION

10 inspiring artists have been selected to paint a mural, with walls throughout Los Angeles as their canvas, based on the inspiration “puedes,” which translates to “you can.” Whether it means ambition and hustle, overcoming a struggle or hope, artists will answer the question, “What does ‘puedes’ mean to you?” through their completed artwork.

We are so hyped to see you up on a wall in Los Angeles.  Congratulations.  Can you tell us where it is?
Thank you.  Yes, my mural is located at MadAve venue, cross streets Beverly Blvd. and North Westmoreland Ave in Los Angeles.
310 Madison Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90004
.
.
What was the inspiration/concept behind your LA mural?
First off, I have various styles and mindsets when I approach certain murals and paintings.
For this project I wanted to infuse expressionism and surrealism in this type of molecular point of view.  I vibed off that emotion and energy to keep my self excited and creative a perspective on my style.
.
.

How long did it take you to complete the project?
It took about a solid six days leading up to the unveiling of my mural.

Murals vs. Paintings/Pieces.  Do you approach them differently?
I dont think theres much difference in the creative feeling when I’m trying to make my art.  Mathematically, large scale murals have to be calculated a bit more, versus small scale paintings.
.
.
Red Bull has been sponsoring extreme athletes for a long time, and recently just ventured into sponsoring extreme artists.  How did you link up with them?
I’ve worked with the creative agency before on previous projects years before such as Absolut X Coachella 2013.  I had been sending out my latest video project prior to this Redbull Latagrafica gig.  They saw it and contacted me the next day.  They were very impressed on my latest work and thought I was a good fit for the project.
.
.
Where can we see murals of yours in the Coachella Valley?
I have currently have a mural still up for display in Coachella on Sixth Street & Coachella Chamber.
