A Shared Aesthetic: Modernism and Photography

Lecturer: Daniell Cornell, Deputy Director for Art and Senior Curator

This lecture will present an overview of the exhibition Modern Moments: Recent Gifts in American Photography on view now at the museum. The lecture will provide details about some of the recent gifts that have come from three collectors who have donated significant photographs in support of the museum’s new photography emphasis. The classic, modernist works on display render urban spaces, the body, and the natural world through black and white imagery that highlights formal relationships to present a compelling vision of American life in the post-World War II era.
