SafeHouse of the Desert is an emergency teen shelter open 24/7 located in Thousand Palms.  We have been providing prevention and intervention services aimed at homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth in our emergency shelters ages 11-17 and older youth 18-25, who are aging out of foster care and transitioning into college in our Transitional Living Program for over twenty years.

We are looking for a film no longer than 5 minutes that describes our services and shows actual footage of the shelter. This film will be used in school presentation through out the Coachella Valley.

Five films in all will be selected with cash prizes up to $250

Film screening and award reception date to be announced.

Submissions are due no later than May 27, 2011 3PM

Technical Requirements:

Work that does not meet the technical requirements will NOT be included in the judging of the contest.

Any persons used in filming under the age of 18 must also have a media release form signed by their parent or guardian included in the submission packet.

Subject matter: Due to the intention of use with this film inappropriate subject matter including nudity, violence, drug use and profanity will not be permitted.

SafeHouse programs and services include food, shelter, individual and family counseling. We also offer a substance abuse program.

The Safe Place program is how we reach out to teens. We partner with local businesses like Sunline Bus Co who provide free transportation to youth seeking shelter services.

Cup of Happy is our latest program, working with young people 16-25 to destigmatize mental health issues, provide peer support, resources, education and referral service to free counseling if needed. Cup of Happy is a youth driven program that creates events and activities in order to promote emotional well-being.
