Arthur Lyons’

Film Noir Festival

presented by the Palm Springs Cultural Center

at the Camelot Theaters

May 12-15, 2011

The Film Noir Festival is one of my festivals that take place in the Coachella Valley all year long.  The under-hyped, culturally rich film fest does not just purely sell me on entertainment value alone , but I also appreciate the significance of this era in film history and having the opportunity to experience it on the big screen the way it should be experienced in all its glory.

And sometimes, well, it’s not just purely about the film and the historical significance either… sometimes it’s just the fact that the Film Noir festival is just about the best date night idea that anyone has ever had (*hint *hint).  It’s a night to dress up, go out, have a martini, attempt to revitalize classic romance and add just a pinch of drama to your life.

The Opening Night of the 2011 Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival will include a very special appearance by actress Stefanie Powers. Miss Powers, perhaps best known for her role on the popular television series, Hart to Hart, will attend the screening of the 1962 thriller Experiment in Terror (7:30pm on Thursday, May 12).

Directed by Blake Edwards, Experiment in Terror starred Glenn Ford as FBI Agent John “Rip” Ripley, Lee Remick as bank teller Kelly Sherwood, and a young Stefanie Powers as Remick’s younger sister, Toby Sherwood. Miss Powers will participate in a brief Q&A after the screening, sign copies of her 2010 memoir, One From the Hart, and attend a private reception for sponsors and all access pass holders.

Stephanie Powers has starred in a long list of films, since first breaking into show business in the late 1950s. Notably, she appeared (as Bunny Dixon) in the Romantic Comedy, Palm Springs Weekend, which was filmed on location in Palm Springs. That film, a local favorite, also starred Troy Donahue, Robert Conrad, Ty Hardin, and Connie Stevens.

Powers also has an impressive number of television credits. Her early television work included a number of popular television series – Route 66, Bonanza, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and the Robert Wagner series It Takes a Thief (in 1970). Stefanie Powers and Robert Wagner later went on to co-star in the popularHart to Hart television series (from 1979 to 1984). Her role as Jennifer Hart earned her two Emmy and five Golden Globe Award Best Television Actress nominations.

In the 1990s Stefanie Powers and Wagner reunited to make eight Hart to Hart made-for-TV two-hour movies, and in 2008, she was again reunited with Robert Wagner for the filming of a special Hart to Hart edition of the Graham Norton Show on the BBC.
