Palm Springs has had a long time love affair with classic cars.  We are home to the best landscape and architecture to compliment any vintage automobile.

And, side note….Over here at The Coachella Valley Art Scene we are big fans of classic cars and had to spread the good word!  Whether you consider a classic car show art or not, there is no denying that the designs are quite fabulous and when it comes to styling, what’s a proper Palm Springs fashion photo shoot without a classic car?!?!

To get all the information on the classic car show that just rolled into town, read the information below.  All information has been provided by great autos.org.

The Show

We’re returning to Palm Springs for our fourth Casual Concours Car Show to be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at a brand new location—the Desert Princess Country Club! Our new location promises to be as spectacular as in years past.

Proceeds from the show will benefit the Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, who support the shelter, and are dedicated to building a community for responsible pet stewardship and the humane treatment of animals. This is a great opportunity to show your support for your furry little family member (not talking about bears or cubs here) and pledge support to the many dogs and cats that have yet to find good homes.

Host Hotel

The host hotel will be the Doral Desert Princess Resort. It is conveniently located next door to the Desert Princess Country Club with easy access. We were able to negotiate a rate of $99 per night and a reduction in the resort fee to $10. Be sure to mention Great Autos when reserving your room. There are other events in the desert that weekend so be sure to book your room now. For more information on how to obtain this discounted rate, please visit the page under Activities and Events / Casual Concours PS IV / Accommodations.

Great Autos of Yesteryear is the largest gay and lesbian car club on the West Coast with nearly 1,100 members, owning over 3,200 cars. This diverse organization was formed in 1983 by veteran car collectors Ted Davidson and Herb Rothman who, though active in other clubs, felt the gay community should have a club all its own—a club that could serve as both a social gathering place and means of bringing together gay and lesbian individuals who share a unique enthusiasm for the automobile and its preservation. You can see some of our members’ cars in the slide show on the front page!

Unlike most “conventional” classic car clubs who might have one event a year, Great Autos offers at least one fun event each month, such as road rallies, car collection tours, and car shows in and around Southern California. Also, Great Autos members look forward to exciting annual events — including our drive-in movie event, charity car show, and the four-day extravaganza West Coast Meet in San Luis Obispo. One of our most enjoyable annual events is Heaps O’ Fun day in the park celebrating works-in-progress, daily drivers and “less than perfect” cars. In addition to all that, local area cruise nights are held frequently throughout the Southland so members can “kick tires” and catch up during the week.

Great Autos actively supports the LGBT community in a number of ways with involvement in Pride festivals and parades. When you’ve seen dignitaries riding in stunning, chrome-laden convertibles, chances are those vintage vehicles have been provided by Great Autos members. We have also raised many thousands of dollars for worthy causes at our spectacular annual Concours charity car show.
